The cloud versions of Jira and Confluence are particularly suitable for small and large SMEs, but also for corporations with a requirement of up to 10,000 licenses. If you purchase your licenses on a monthly basis, the license model can be scaled up to the maximum - and reduced again on a monthly basis. This is particularly lucrative for volatile business models and start-ups. You can adapt the security level to your security requirements by selecting the license model (from Standard to Enterprise).
If you choose the Enterprise Edition, you also decide on the location of the servers - i.e. whether in the USA or in the EU. The latter is a crucial point, particularly in view of the GDPR. The EU servers for Jira and Confluence are located in Dublin and Frankfurt am Main.
Jira and Confluence in the Data Center version are aimed at larger companies. The smallest version contains 500 licenses and is therefore suitable for larger SMEs. There is no upper limit. Both software platforms can be scaled upwards indefinitely, which makes the Data Center version attractive for companies with more than 10,000 employees.
As with the cloud version, the security level of the Data Center also increases significantly with the different model variants from Standard to Enterprise. The latter meets all GDPR requirements with its features and accommodation in a data center of your choice. High availability is also guaranteed, as any number of nodes can be operated in active-active server clustering.
