END OF LIFE for Data Center products

After some confusion and false reports, it is now official:

Atlassian has announced the end of the Data Center versions of its products. The company is thus consistently pursuing its cloud-only strategy. What does this mean for Data Center customers?

  1. Starting on March 30, 2026, Data Center customers will have three years until March 28, 2029 to plan and implement their move to the cloud.
  2. Until the end of this period, technical support and security updates for critical issues will continue to be offered for the Data Center products.

For customers with special requirements, Atlassian offers the following support:

  • For Bitbucket Data Center customers, source code is particularly important. To provide maximum flexibility, a new license option will be offered to access both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud. This allows Bitbucket Data Center customers to work and store their source code in their preferred environment even after March 28, 2029.
  • For Data Center customers with special challenges or requirements, extended maintenance will be offered beyond March 28, 2029. This will give them the flexibility and support they need for a successful transition to the cloud. No prices have yet been communicated. However, these are likely to be correspondingly higher.

Here's the timetable:

  • December 16, 2025: New Data Center apps can no longer be placed in the Marketplace.
  • March 30, 2026: Sales stop of Data Center products for new customers.
  • March 30, 2028: Sales stop of Data Center licenses for existing customers.
  • 28 March 2029: END OF LIFE - running Data Center instances are switched to "read only".

What does this mean?

For teams working with Data Center products, the countdown has officially begun. Now is the time to plan the migration and develop long-term strategies.

It remains to be seen how Data Center customers will deal with this decision.
