Turn 2 into 1: Atlassian merges JWM and JSW into Jira

Feb 6, 2025 5:38:46 PM

Jira is a key tool for the growth of companies and has fundamentally changed the way Agile and DevOps teams work. At the Atlassian "Team 24" event in Las Vegas, the latest version was presented, in which Jira Work Management and Jira Software are combined into a comprehensive platform.

One Jira for all teams

Jira Software and Jira Work Management help teams track and complete their work effectively. This includes not only development teams, but also departments such as marketing. To help them do their jobs even better, Atlassian is merging Jira Work Management and Jira Software into a single, powerful project management tool. And it will only be called Jira.

What exactly will change?

In addition to simplified license management in a single project, there are some interesting new features that Jira users will see as a result of this merger.

Goals in Jira

In future, Jira users will be able to add goals to their projects and tasks. This allows specific targets or results to be defined and these and the associated work to be made visible across teams. Company goals and the teams involved can also be viewed in the "Goals Directory".

Plans in Jira

Jira integrates the best features of JWM into Jira Plans, including a calendar view and an updated summary view that makes it easy to create and navigate plans. Additionally, customers can add specific goals to projects that are visible company-wide and can be viewed in the "Goals Directory" along with involved teams.

List view in Jira

The list view, previously only available in Jira Work Management, is now available for all types of Jira projects (Service Management, Software, Business). Jira users can now not only view tasks in boards or as search results, but also view and directly edit tasks and their details in a clear and sortable list.
