Raider becomes Twix, nothing else changes? What happened to the famous chocolate bar in the early 90s is now happening to AirTrack. Atlassian acquired the leading data quality management solution just over a year ago. Now the old brand name is being mothballed, but the software lives on in JSM Asset Management under a new name: Assets Data Manager.
This makes the popular tool for consolidating different data sources even more versatile. Direct integration into the Atlassian tools means that even more adapters are available, allowing users to connect and consolidate even more data sources.
What exactly does the Asset Data Manager do?
The Assets Data Manager enables the connection and linking of multiple data sources. The data can then be analyzed, transformed and consolidated to ensure that it is...
- complete,
- up-to-date and
- accurate
...before they are saved as assets. It can then be used in Asset Customfields and as Asset Smartlinks.
In this way, the overall integrity of the data source tools can also be ensured.
Application areas for which a complete, up-to-date and correct database is particularly important:
Overview
Starting from external data sources, the import of external data into JSM Assets is divided into three functional blocks:
- Connecting the external data sources via adapters and importing the external data
- Analyzing and consolidating the imported data to obtain correct, complete and up-to-date data
- Importing the consolidated data into JSM Assets
Defining the data sources and importing the data
The first step is to connect the data sources and import the data.
Adapters are currently available for 30 data sources as well as import options for CSV files and ODBC connections for SQL databases.
The data is then available in a data repository, the Data Manager.
Further processing by the Data Manager
The imported data can now be processed further. The Data Manager offers numerous functions for this purpose.
Imported objects and their origin
Example of data cleansing:
The Data Manager offers freely configurable dashboards:
The raw data can be called up by simply clicking on the graphic.
Finally, the consolidated and current data is imported as assets using the JSM Importer.
My conclusion
Although the new software is still in beta testing, it is already clear that Atlassian users have a powerful tool at their disposal with the Asset Data Manager. It enables data from a wide variety of sources to be consolidated and made more usable.
